Join our Guide Team

Dystopia Rising is nothing without our Community, that includes us being able to run our events effectively. Guides are Players who wish to Volunteer their time to assist us in making Events run smoothly. Guide Duties are done in place of a Casting Shift, and come in many forms of responsibilities. Descriptions for each of the Guide Roles are listed below, if you see one you’re interested in, even if you don’t have relevant experience for it, please apply anyways! We’re able to train you up into any of the Guide Roles.

Rules Guides

Rules Guides are the ones you’ll see out “in the field” running around during an event. Rules Guides organize the Casted Characters (NPCs) and run the modules that Players interact with in the play spaces. Rules Guides are attentive to the modules both on from the Casted Characters view, but also the Players’ side, making sure all rules are followed, no safety concerns arise, and everything goes according to fun. You’ll most often find these Guides running to the side of mods, wearing a Green Headband (Out of Character Head Band) keeping an eye one everything. This position does require a lot of moving around, so please keep that in mind.

OPERATIONS GUIDES

Operations, or “Ops” Guides make sure NPC-Land is running smoothly. They’re the ones at the desk, checking players in and out of their NPC shifts, using the Story Book to organize Rules and Settings Guides, keeping everyone on the timeline. Ops Guides are responsible for organizing limited resources to best run mods and content going out into the field. This position does involve a lot of sitting, with burst of activity, so please keep that in mind.

Settings Guides

Settings Guides are responsible for making everything looks just as it should. Settings Guides spend time before and during the Event setting up the Play Space Environment, as well as NPC-Land’s Organization & Sanitation. Settings Guides make our Play Spaces feel set in the Zombie Ridden Wastelands our Characters call home, as well as help Casted Characters with any costuming and/or makeup help they need, during their Guide shift. This position does involve plenty standing, as well as occasionally lifting upwards of 20lbs at a time, though neither are required. This position also includes Makeup Application - Most notably Special Effects (SFX) Makeup. These skills are not required, but able to be taught to Settings Guides interested, so please keep that in mind.

Photography Guides

Photography Guides are a branch of Settings Guides who’s focus is capturing our Events in, well photography! All the photography you see throughout our website is brought to you by Photography Guides we’ve had over the years. Primarily this means breaking up your Guide Shift into smaller chunks throughout the event, to capture a range of different events that happens over the weekend, but occasionally we may host “Photo-Op” Events with the Community between Events, to give all players a chance to show off their Character Kits, as well as promote Dystopia Rising PNW. We encourage any Photography Guides to make these events, but are not required. This position involves a lot of moving around, but the burst of time spent doing so is extremely flexible, so please keep that in mind.

LOGISTICS GUIDES

Logistics “Logi” Guides, also called Coordination Guides, spend their Guide Shift as your Local Postal Workers, helping out in the Post Office. Logistic Guides are the ones getting Players their copied prints, writing their cards, and handling all kinds of In-Game Economy. Whether Players are Crafting, Farming, Scavenging, or anything involving our “Rectangle Run Economy", they’ll be visiting the Local Logistics Guides for assistance during the Event. This role involves sitting for up to four (4) hours, with the occasional breaks to get up to walk around and stretch, as well as lots of writing by hand and computer use, so please keep that in mind.

NEW PLAYER GUIDES

New Player Guides are focused on being friendly faces that assist our New Players get accustom and comfortable at Events. New Player Guides shifts involve running the “New Player Mod”, which is a Module ran strictly for New Players (XP & Below), at the start of the Event, (Others may be ran periodically during the Event, but this one is always guaranteed). Since this is usually a shorter shift, New Player Guides also make themselves available to all New Players during the events, assisting with any rules, settings, or others questions/concerns they may have. While it’s everyone’s job in the community to be welcoming and inviting, New Player Guides are those who are well versed in the rules, setting, and are a face New Players are introduced to right at the start to help them find someone who will be able to answer their questions during the event. This position involves having a good grasp on both mechanical and settings rules, as well as the confidence in that knowledge, so please keep that in mind.
